Job Description:

Graham Projects is seeking a part-time Associate Placemaker to support our public art and urban design-build practice. The ideal candidate is a dynamic communicator, highly organized, creative, tech-savvy, responsive, and brings a joyful sense of design thinking to improving places with people.

  • Monthly retainer for 20-40 hours at $25/hr on a contractual basis.
  • Potential to increase hours and evolve position as the company continues to expand.
  • Semi-Remote position. Reports to Public Artist & Principal Graham Coreil-Allen.

Graham Projects makes cities more inclusive and livable through public art, placemaking, and civic engagement. Building on his background in public art, urban design, and advocacy, Graham Coreil-Allen and his team produce participatory projects and lead social initiatives in the service of pedestrians and places.

A passion for improving creative access to and collaboratively shaping public spaces. A drive to help neighborhoods in Baltimore and beyond succeed through sustainable urbanism, public art, urban planning and design, and community advocacy.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of the sectors of public art, urban planning, and placemaking.
  • Strong organizing, writing and public dialogue skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides), Google Maps, and Zoom.
  • Web editing experience with platforms such as WordPress or Squarespace.
  • Proficient with basic photography composition and editing.

Responsibilities:

Community Engagement

  • Facilitating proactive dialogue with clients, stakeholders, and residents by initiating and responding to emails, phone calls, and participating in virtual and in-person meetings and site visits.
  • Organizing virtual and in person participatory public design events.
  • Creating and managing online forms for stakeholder feedback.
  • Preparing and creating PowerPoint presentations and reference materials as needed.
  • Actively document projects through social media posts.

Administration

  • Maintaining detailed notes via shared Google Doc to track projects, stakeholder relationships, research, and action items.
  • Managing shared Google Calendar and setup Zoom meetings.
  • Performing market research.
  • Proofreading documents and other office materials.
  • Assista managing accounts in Quickbooks.

Studio management

  • Research product costs, solicit bids, and purchase project materials.
  • Tracking project expenses via Google Sheets.
  • File municipal applications and pull Right of Way permits.
  • Respond to public art requests-for-qualifications by assembling and submitting required written statements and visual documentation.
  • Writing and posting blog posts using WordPress CMS.

Potential responsibilities

The following responsibilities are not required, but are desired and could be added to the job scope based on motivation, experience, and/or qualifications.

Design assistance

  • Shooting photos and video using a DSLR camera and drone.
  • Editing photos using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
  • Editing short videos for social media.
  • Generating graphic design documents using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
  • Preparing scaled designs using Sketchup and Layout software.

Installation assistance

  • Application traffic paints and epoxy-modified coatings to pavement using broom, roller, and sprayer techniques.
  • Maintenance of Traffic setup and operation.
  • Installing flex posts.
  • Installing thermoplastic graphics using a propane torch.
  • Woodworking fabrication of temporary structures and outdoor furniture.

Expectations

  • Highly organized, coachable, able to multitask, and work well with fast-paced directions.
  • Self-directed and able to work without supervision.
  • Strong people and presentation skills.
  • Able to manage time effectively and efficiently.
  • Willing to work some evenings, weekends, and extended hours, as needed.
  • Own desktop/laptop required. Graham Projects will pay for applications or subscriptions as needed.
