I teach so that I may share my profound love for art-making
and its positive power in society.
As a social practice public artist, I engage the constructs, meanings and contradictions of our everyday urban environments. Through my radical walking tours and creative cartography, I’ve learned that being a cultural producer in this day and age affords us the unique opportunity to fluidly move between disciplines in the process of testing and developing compelling things, ideas, spaces and experiences. Situated within a trusting community, my pedagogy of theory and practice is defined by cultivating technical knowledge and experimental production, promoting collaboration and interdisciplinary practice, and sharpening critical thinking skills through writing and reflexive discourse. My goal is to show students how to hone a holistic personal practice while effectively connecting with diverse collaborators and audiences through powerful stories, well-crafted media, seductive imagery and engaging actions. My backgrounds in sculpture, mapping, fabrication, digital design, art history, and social theory; as well as my experiences project managing in the NYC art world, organizing countless public art projects, earning my MFA and Teaching Certificate in Baltimore, and forging a professional art practice while teaching at MICA and JHU make me uniquely qualified to continue serving as an art instructor.
