The Waverly 32nd Street project added a traffic calming pavement mural and revitalized Waverly Commons with restored and new furnishings. The traffic calming art placemaking improvements were inspired by community input from local stakeholders including Waverly Main Street, the 32nd Street Farmers Market, and residents who shared their ideas for public art and pedestrian enhancements during community meetings, at an in-person pop-up at the farmers market, and via an online survey.

The pavement mural, Woven Walk, features a vibrant pattern of lemon yellow, golden orange, turquoise green, rose violet, and baby blue representing the diversity and strength of Waverly, Abell, and surrounding neighborhoods. Embedded in the pattern are abstracted letters including “W” for Waverly, “F” for Farmers, “M” for Market.

Placemaking improvements were added to Waverly Commons to refresh the popular community gathering space. The existing zig-zag benches were repaired, the degraded pergola was replaced by a sturdier structure with durable shade canopy, and the metal planters aligned to better define the public space. New seating options including backed, metal benches and ADA accessible picnic tables better accommodate residents visiting the market and attending events at Waverly Commons.
